  • FREE ACT/SAT tutoring starts this week! Every Wednesday, in room 830 with Ms. Reid, during all 3 lunches. This week we will begin with ACT English.

 

  • The Ruff Club is having their Annual Fundraiser. Students will be giving the dogs baths in a charity event aimed to support local animal rescue organizations. The event will be held on Saturday, October 29th from 10 am to 2 pm at Pet Supermarket located at 1020 S Ponce De Leon Blvd. Please come out and support this wonderful cause.

 

 

  • The book fair is back! The book fair will run all next week in the library. We accept cash, checks, or credit cards. Hope to see you there!

 

  • This month’s Florida Teens Read/Battle of the Books meeting will be on Tuesday, October 25th from 4-5 pm. Members, please send Ms. Neff practice questions and please bring snacks to share!

 

  • This month’s book club meeting will be on Wednesday, October 26th from 3-4 pm. This month’s theme is “Scary Stories,” so come prepared to talk about any scary or thrilling books you’ve read lately! Please bring snacks to share. EVERYONE is welcome!

 

  • Boys’ Basketball will have tryouts on October 31st at 4:00 in the gym. You must be athletically cleared in order to participate. You must have a physical and athletic clearance cleared by the 31st. No EXCEPTIONS WILL BE ALLOWED. For more information, please see Coach Lockhart in portable 3.

 

  • National Art Honor Society will be selling Boo Pops during all lunches. This will start today, and we will be selling them through the 28th.

  • Boys soccer tryouts continue today on the practice field at 4:15. All boys must be athletically cleared in order to participate. Girls soccer tryouts begin today on the practice field at 4:15. Girls must be athletically cleared in order to participate. Both teams can see Coach Reid in room 830 with any questions!

  • This past Saturday the Menendez Cross Country team had an incredible outing at Matanzas High School. The girls team had a new leader this week. Olivia Gooden ran a personal best of 24:31. She was followed by Sierra Alva and Maria Giovannia who also ran a personal bests of 25:08 and 26:03. Freshman Sadie Boss set a personal record of 32minutes over the 5000 meters. The boys team had a 4th place overall finish at the meet. Ryan Jones narrowly missed setting the school record with a personal best of 16:19. Spencer Lawrence, Quinn Larson, Tony Fuentes, and Ethan Molloy had a tight pack and finished within seconds of one another. Gabe Sivyer and Michael Korfage both had huge personal records to round out our top 7. Way to go Falcon Harriers.

  • Attention NHS members: There will be an NHS meeting on Tuesday, October 11th at 8:30 in the media center. Please make sure you have paid your dues!

 

  • Trick or Treat with a Book is back! Stop by the library to check out a trick or treat book, fill out the slip that goes with it, and get your treat! Trick or Treat with a Book runs through 10/31, so don’t delay, come check out a book today!

 

  • Lady Falcons Basketball fundraiser! Dicks Wings 4010 US1 South, tomorrow, October, 11th. This will take place from 5 pm until close. 10% goes to the girls basketball program so please come get a bite to eat and hang out with the team and coaches.

 

 

  • On Saturday in Tallahassee, on one of the most difficult courses that we run, the Falcon Cross Country team excelled. The girls team continues to get stronger and faster each week. This week Erin Costello led the pack at FSU, followed by Salah Miller, Sierra Alva, Maria Giovanni, Olivia Gooden, and Kyla Carter rounding out the top 6. The boys team had several personal bests including Ryan Jones who finished 3rd in the varsity race with a time of 16:57. Spencer Lawrence had a personal best of 18:13, as did Quinn Larson with a 18:43. Luc Gillan was the 4th Falcon to cross the finish, followed closely by Ethan Molloy, Tony Fuentes, and the fastest freshman at Menendez – Gabe Sivyer.

 

  • Future Business Leaders of America! This is a great club to make friends, learn about the business world, and compete with other students. There will be a meeting on Tuesday, October 11th in room 970 at 4:00. Please attend if you are interested in joining. See Mr. Hendricks if you have any questions.

  • The National “See You at the Pole”? This will take place on September 28th before the second bell rings, 8:45a meeting place at the Flagpole, student lead prayer.

  • Here is your reminder that we are offering math tutoring on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons 4th-7th period and all day on Fridays😊 Students can let a counselor, math teacher or Mr. Erb know that they are interested and would like to be on our list.

  • Need Math Help? During the day? Sign up with your math teacher, guidance counselor or Mr. Erb (room 662), before/after school, check school website under “22-23 school info” for weekly schedule.

  • Congrats to the Cross-Country teams. The girls team continues to show improvement. This week Sophomore Erin Costello showed the way, followed by senior Salah Miller, and finally a tight pack led by Olivia Gooden, Maria Giovanni, and Sierra Alva. The boys were led by 4th place finisher Ryan Jones, 9th place Spencer Lawrence, 18th place for Luke Gillan, 19th for Tony Fuentes, and 25th for Ethan Molloy. The boys brought home some hardware with a 2nd place overall finish.

 

  • Come out and support the Falcon Football at Culvers, tomorrow September 20, from 4-8 pm. A portion of sales will be donated to the Menendez Football Team.

  • Any social studies scholars out there? Want to strengthen your college application? Pedro is starting a chapter of Rho-Kappa- then national social studies honor society. Come by the front office for an application! Bring them back to Mr. Kasting or Mrs. White when you complete them.

Applications are due to Mrs. Paone or Ms. Reed NO LATER THAN September 23. Late applications will NOT be accepted.

 

 

  • Bingo for Books is BACK! Come to the library during ALL LUNCHES tomorrow, September 13th to play bingo to win books!

  • “Do you love animals? Are you looking for a fun way to earn volunteer hours?  Join the RUFF Club!  Our first meeting will be Wednesday, September 14 in room 770.  See Mrs. Stasky or Mrs. Morrison if you would like more information.”

 

  • The library is hosting Life-Sized Angry Birds on Thursday, September 15th from 4-5 pm. Come out and have some fun! Just make sure you have a ride lined up to get home.

  • Any student interested in joining the track team, there will be conditioning on Wednesdays after school starting September 7th. Conditioning will be 3-4:30 pm. If you are interested in joining, please stop by room 400 to see Coach Ray.

  • Did you know… every one person can save up to three lives through blood donation!  The first Blood Drive of the year, sponsored by the HOSA club will take place on Friday, September 9th.  Make sure to sign up during your lunch Friday, September 2nd, Wednesday, September 7th, or Thursday, September 8th.  Any questions please see Coach Willis is room 222.

 

  • “Are you interested in learning to play chess or want to show off your skills? Come to chess club on Monday’s, after school in room 660.”

 

  • During the month of September, any patron 17 years old or younger with late fines can come to any St. Johns County public library branch and read those fines down. For every half hour read in the library, they’ll get $1.00 removed from their late fines. Food-for-fines may be substituted after $10.00. They just need to sign up at the front desk.

  • Interest Meeting. All Boys that are interested in playing basketball this year are required to attend the interest meeting on August 31 after school (3:00) in Portable 3. This meeting is required in order to participate. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Lockhart in Portable 3.

 

  • The first meeting of book club will be on Wednesday, August 31st at 3 pm in the library.

 

  • Any student interested in joining the track team, there will be conditioning on Wednesdays after school starting September 7th. Conditioning will be 3-4:30 pm. If you are interested in joining, please stop by room 400 to see Coach Ray.

 

  • Anyone in grade 10 English 2 for the first time is automatically signed up for the PSAT here at Pedro on October 12. If you are a grade 9 or 11 and would like to register, this Friday is your last chance. Go to Pedro website, click on payments $, then click schoolpay and sign up there. Seniors invited to take the SATNCR October 12 and ACT NCR November 1st need to turn in their form and money by next Friday. The sign up for the September 30th PERT test for grade 10-12 students in dual enrollment ends next Friday so go to your school counselor’s Schoology Course to sign up under Updates! Mrs. Purtill does not register students for the weekend SAT or ACT! You can do that at their websites
