to Provide Free Driver Education
The St. Johns County Tax Collector, in cooperation with the St. Johns County School Board, will offer free Driver Education classes at all of the St. Johns County Public High Schools during the 2011-12 school year. These include Allen Nease, Bartram Trail, Creekside, Pedro Menendez, Ponte Vedra, St. Augustine and St. Johns Technical High Schools.
The curriculum has been designed to help prepare students to obtain a Learner License, which allows restricted driving privileges for one year. The classroom instruction will cover driving laws, rules, and road signs and will include information relating to the safe operation of a motor vehicle. These classes will be taught by trained instructors at the high school where the student is enrolled. Each class will be limited to 50 students; enrollment will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Classes will meet during the “Zero Hour,” from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. on each of the scheduled dates.
Students can register by clicking on Driver Education Classes on the SJC Tax Collector’s website http://www.sjctax.us. Those wishing to attend must be at least 14 ½ years old at the beginning of the class. Perspective students will be required to complete and submit the on-line registration form with the following information:
Full Name
Complete Address, including Zip Code
Date of Birth
Phone Number, including Area Code
Name of the Student’s High School
Class Date Requested, first and second choice
A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the registrant unless the class is full. If the class is no longer available, the student will be notified so they can sign up for another date.
